BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center (HBGCC) originally was constructed for HemisFair 68. It was expanded and renovated in 1974, 1977, 1986 and 1999. The 1999 expansion doubled the size of the Convention Center to 1.3 million gross square feet.

The construction of the $325 million Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center (HBGCC) Expansion Project started in July 2013, which includes 747,250 square feet expansion of the existing center that includes exhibit halls, multi-purpose room, ballroom, meeting rooms, administrative spaces, as well as a 138,300 square foot renovation of the existing space and 398,933 square feet of demolition of the original west building. Once fully constructed the Convention Center will be a total of 1.65 million square feet. The improvements are designated to reflect the culture of San Antonio and improve the Convention Center's competitive position.
