SUBJECT:
Flat Bed Truck with Lift
SUMMARY:
This ordinance authorizes acceptance of a contract with Gunn Chevrolet, LTD to provide the Transportation & Capital Improvements Department with one replacement flat bed truck with a lift for a total cost of $56,218.00. Funding for this purchase is available from the FY 2019 Equipment Renewal and Replacement Fund (ERRF) Budget.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Submitted for City Council consideration and action is the attached tabulation of three competitive bids to provide one replacement four wheel drive flat bed truck with a lift for a total cost of $56,218.00. This equipment will be utilized by the Transportation & Capital Improvements Department for project support and transportation throughout the City. This unit will be used for a variety of tasks to include loading and off-loading of various materials in support of construction and roadway projects.
ISSUE:
This contract will provide for one replacement unit to the City's fleet.
This unit is covered by a minimum 36 month/36,000 mile warranty that will start on the day the unit is placed in service. The life expectancy of this truck is 120 months.
The Small Business Economic Development Advocacy (SBEDA) Ordinance requirements were waived due to the lack of small, minority, and/or women businesses available to provide these goods and services.
The recommended award is to the lowest responsive bidder, who is also a local business; therefore, application of the Local Preference Program was not required.
The Veteran-Owned Business Program does not apply to good/supplies contracts, so no preference was applied to this contract
ALTERNATIVES:
The current truck scheduled for replacement has met the age and/or mileage requirement cycle and is no longer economically feasible to repair. If the replacement equipment is not purchased, necessary field work may be compromised and thus create the potential of delays in delivery of essential services to the residents of San Antonio. The alternative is to continue to use the truck currently available and incur increasing maintenance costs, thus compromising services throughout the City.
