Parking Agreement with University of Texas Institute of Texan Cultures
SUMMARY:
This ordinance authorizes an Amended and Restated Parking Agreement with the University of Texas at San Antonio for parking for use by the Institute of Texan Cultures to revise the hours of availability on 20 of the 50 spaces to 24 hours per day (7 days per week) and to increase the payment to the City from $5,000.00 to $7,997.28 annually.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
On June 6, 2013, City Council approved Ordinance 2013-06-06-0389 with the University of Texas at San Antonio, designating 50 parking spaces on City property for use by the Institute of Texan Cultures (ITC). The parking spaces are located near the ITC in Hemisfair Park and are available for their use seven days a week from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. The ITC is now seeking to amend the agreement to utilize 20 of the 50 parking spaces seven days a week for 24 hours a day. While ITC's total number of parking spaces on City property will remain unchanged at 50, its payment to the City will increase from $5,000.00 to $7,997.28 annually due to 20 parking spaces being available at all times.
ISSUE:
ITC is seeking to amend the agreement with the city to allow it to utilize 20 of the 50 parking spaces in Hemisfair Park on a 24 hour basis, 7 days a week. This will increase its annual payment from $5,000.00 to $7,997.28.
ALTERNATIVES:
The City may elect not to make available for 24 hours per day 20 of the 50 parking spaces currently leased by the University of Texas at San Antonio for the ITC in Hemisfair Park.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This ordinance authorizes an increase in the annual payment to the City from $5,000.00 to $7,997.28, which will be deposited to the Parking Fund.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends approval of an ordinance authorizing an Amended and Restated Parking Agreement with the University of Texas at San Antonio for parking within Hemisfair Park in support of the Institute of Texan Cultures to revise the hours of availability of 20 of the 50 parking spaces while increasing the payment to the City from $5,000.00 to $7,997.28 annually.
