BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

On July 5, 2015, San Antonio’s five Spanish colonial missions - Missions San Jose, San Juan, Concepcion, Espada and the Alamo were declared a World Heritage Site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization.  The San Antonio Missions represent the only World Heritage Site in Texas and one of just 23 in the United States. The World Heritage Office is responsible for planning, coordinating, implementing, and managing the World Heritage Work Plan and related projects within the World Heritage Buffer Zone.  This work includes partnering with a various stakeholders to maximize the economic impact of the designation and enhance the experience for both visitors and residents.

The one-time license agreement with Accu-Print for the 2017 Calendars featuring the San Antonio Missions World Heritage Logo will assist the City’s efforts to highlight the historic missions and the World Heritage Site designation.  Additionally, approval is issued to the World Heritage Office to permit licensing agreements on behalf of the City for the following logos: San Antonio Missions World Heritage Logo, World Heritage Trail, and World Heritage Festival.

ISSUE:

Approval of this Ordinance is consistent with the City’s policy of licensing City-owned property.

ALTERNATIVES:

City Council may elect not to authorize this License Agreement.  In doing so, this would counter City staff’s efforts to partner with the community and maximize opportunities to highlight and educate visitors and residents on the World Heritage Site designation.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Under this License Agreement, there is no value or revenue generated for the use of the logo.
