Pre-K 4 SA Facility Improvement Projects

 

 

SUMMARY:

 

This item requests Board approval for facility improvement projects at the South and North Education Centers which amount to approximately $59,000.00 to be funded by remaining construction project funds which were approved during the March 3, 2015 Board meeting.

 

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

 

During the March 3, 2015 meeting, the Board of Directors approved for Pre-K 4 SA to accept approximately $2.6 million in funds originally allocated to the construction of Pre-K 4 SA Education Centers which the program would utilize for additional facility improvement projects.

 

Staff issued $40,266.42 in project funds to JAMCO Ventures to facilitate necessary office renovations at the West Education Center. This scope of work included building three administrative offices, painting a pedestrian walkway in the parking lot, and adding a gate in the parking lot to separate bus traffic from parents dropping off and picking up their children.

 

JAMCO is a City Council approved JOC contract and therefore can accept construction projects for the City up to $2 million annually. Pre-K 4 SA has quotes for construction projects totaling approximately $100,000 including $42,266 already approved by staff and completed by JAMCO. However, Pre-K 4 SA bylaws require Board approval for contracts exceeding $50,000, so staff is requesting approval from the Board of Directors to fund the remaining projects not to exceed $57,733.

ISSUE:

 

Pre-K 4 SA requests approval for the described facility improvement projects for the Administration and Professional Development wing of the South Education Center from City Council approved JOC contract JAMCO.

 

ALTERNATIVES:

 

Should these projects not be approved, Pre-K 4 SA will be required to procure the services separately and the department could lose the pricing advantage afforded through an awarded City contract. 

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

 

Funds for this purchase are available from 2013 tax revenue notes issued for Pre-K 4 SA facility construction and classroom additions.

 

RECOMMENDATION:

 

Staff recommends that the Board approve facility improvement projects to be completed by JAMCO for approximately $59,000.00.
