Alamo Bowl Agreement
SUMMARY:
This ordinance authorizes a License Agreement with the San Antonio Bowl Association (SABA) to host the 2015-2019 Alamo Bowl games in the Alamodome after the 2014 through 2019 regular college football seasons.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The annual Alamo Bowl was established in 1993 with the opening of the Alamodome. The Valero Alamo Bowl contracts with the Big 12 Conference & Pac-12 Conference to have their first choice of teams after the College Football Playoff Group.
The Alamo Bowl is one of the most popular bowls in the country, producing some of the highest rated bowl games in ESPN history. The Alamo Bowl has drawn over one million spectators collectively since its beginning and has generated in excess of $250 million in direct economic impact locally.
Key terms of the License Agreement include:
* Five-year term: 2015-2019, after the 2014 through 2019 regular college football seasons.
* City receives an annual license fee of $50,000 w/a 3% escalator per year.
* City receives up to $25,000 annually for event staffing and service costs (i.e. ushers, ticket takers, cleaning, conversion, utilities, medical services/ambulance, staging, audio/video systems)
* SABA responsible for security, fire marshal, event production, telecommunications, broadcast, and video production
* City receives $4.00/ticket ($0.50 Facility Access Fee/$1.50 R&I Fee, $2.00 Ticket Service Charge)
* City receives 10% of merchandise sales
* SABA receives right to sell up to 48 of the Alamodome's 52 suites and retain all associated suite rental and ticket sales - City shall receive $1,500/suite that SABA sells (up to 40 suites) - City retains 4 suites
