Fabric Shade Structure for Highland Park


SUMMARY:
This ordinance authorizes a contract with Shade Structures, Inc. for the purchase of one super span shade structure and one cantilevered support structure for a total cost of $65,737.00. Funding for this purchase is included in the 2012 - 2017 Bond Program and located in Council District 3.


BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Submitted for City Council consideration and action is the offer submitted by Shade Structures, Inc., utilizing the Texas BuyBoard Cooperative 423-13 effective October 1, 2013 - September 30, 2015 to provide one super span shade structure and one cantilevered support structure for a total cost of $65,737.00. On May 12, 2012, San Antonio voters approved the 2012-2017 Bond Program, consisting of five propositions totaling $596 million. The Bond Program funds will be used on various capital improvements projects to address community infrastructure needs and improve the overall quality of life in San Antonio. As part of the program, Proposition 3 included Parks, Recreation and Open Space Improvements that would in order acquire, construct, equip and renovate various parks, recreational and open spaces throughout the City.

District 3 Parks Improvements: Highland Park:

* Highland Park: Installation of a super span shade structure over existing basketball court and installation of a cantilevered support structure over the bleachers.
The project requires the purchase of a shade structure procured by the City Purchasing Division. It will be installed separately utilizing a Job-Order-Contract task order, at the one park site. There exists a desire by the City Parks & Recreation Department to adopt a standard shade unit that is durable and compatible with various site conditions and park locations.
