SUBJECT:  Appointment of City Clerk

 

 

SUMMARY:

 

This Ordinance shall confirm the appointment of the City Clerk, in accordance with the Charter of the City of San Antonio.

 

 

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

 

In February of 2020, Mayor Nirenberg appointed an Ad Hoc City Clerk Search Committee to fill

the City Clerk vacancy. The Ad Hoc Committee consisted of Councilmembers Jada Andrews-

Sullivan (Chair), Dr. Adriana Rocha Garcia, Ana Sandoval and John Courage. The search for the City Clerk officially kicked off on March 18, 2020, when the position was widely posted and opened for application.

 

The Ad Hoc Committee met on June 22nd to review candidate applications and determined that a first round of interviews for top candidates would be held on July 13th. Final interviews were conducted with City Council during an Executive Session on August 14th.

 

 

ISSUE:

 

The City Clerk position became vacant in February of 2020.

 

 

ALTERNATIVES:

 

City Council may choose not to appoint the City Clerk and keep the position vacant.

 

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

 

The City Clerk’s salary and compensation are part of Office of the City Clerk’s Adopted Budget.

 

 

RECOMMENDATION:

 

Recommend appointment of City Clerk, in accordance with the Charter of the City of San Antonio.
