CITY OF SAN ANTONIO

GOVERNMENT & PUBLIC AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT

MEMORANDUM

TO:                                          Intergovernmental Relations Council Committee

FROM:                                          Jeff Coyle, Director of Government & Public Affairs

SUBJECT:                     State Legislative Interim Update

DATE:                                           January 10, 2020

At the January 14th Intergovernmental Relations Council Committee meeting, Government & Public Affairs (GPA) staff will provide an update on recent interim activities, including a discussion about specific interim charges most relevant to the City of San Antonio. The briefing will also include an update on the current political environment and upcoming committee hearings.

As previously reported, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick and Speaker Dennis Bonnen announced Senate & House interim charges, respectively. The interim charges are the policy issues leadership has assigned to legislative committees for analysis and evaluation in preparation for the 87th Legislative Session in 2021.

Interim session committee hearings are currently underway and will continue throughout 2020. Ultimately, each committee will issue an interim report with their findings, which may include recommendations that form the foundation for legislation to be filed in 2021. Committee reports often guide the discussions when bills are being considered during the legislative session.
