Cement Waterproofing at Nelson W. Wolff Stadium
SUMMARY:
This ordinance authorizes an appropriation of funds and an acceptance of a contract with J. Reynolds and Co., Inc. to provide all labor, material and equipment to provide a cement waterproof coating at Nelson W. Wolff Stadium for the Convention and Sports Facilities Department for a total cost of $488,073.00, from the Wolff Stadium Capital Improvement Funds.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Nelson W. Wolff Stadium is home to the San Antonio Missions Baseball Club, Inc. The Club is preparing to advance in professional baseball from a Double-A League to a Triple-A Pacific Coast League beginning in April 2019. Stadium improvements are necessary to comply with Pacific League standards. The existing concrete on the concourse and bleacher seating areas has begun to deteriorate causing cracks in the concrete resulting in water leaks to the lower levels of the stadium. The concourse and bleacher seating areas are directly above the concession stands and walkways where pedestrians walk through before entering the seating areas of the stadium. The concrete is the original concrete from when the stadium was built in 1993 and has deteriorated over time.
ISSUE:
This contract with J. Reynolds and Co., Inc. will provide all labor, material, and equipment to provide cement waterproof coating for the concourse and bleacher seating areas at Nelson W. Wolff Stadium consisting of approximately 22,500 square feet. The Contractor will pressure wash the concrete concourse and bleacher seating areas and will use Sikaflex sealant for filling and sealing any existing cracks and joints. The contractor will apply Sikalastic, a cement waterproof coating that will form a sealant coating on the existing concrete which will prevent further deterioration and formation of cracks.
