SUBJECT: SAPD Training Update
SUMMARY:
The Department will provide the Public Safety Committee with an overview of the training curriculum for cadets and police officers to include discussion of training enhancements that have been implemented in recent years to improve officer wellness, performance and customer service.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The SAPD remains committed to regularly reviewing and modifying training curriculum to ensure the Department remains at the national forefront and provides officers with the skills, knowledge and expertise to preserve public safety. The overview will provide information on the following:
• Training Philosophy
• Cadet Training Curriculum
• Annual Officer In-Service Curriculum
• Training Enhancements
• De-Escalation Training
• Crisis Intervention/Family Violence Training
The presentation will also provide an overview of the employee wellness program for police officers.
