Memorandum of Agreement with Goodwill Industries of San Antonio
SUMMARY:
This ordinance authorizes a Memorandum of Agreement with Goodwill Industries of San Antonio (Goodwill Industries) to continue the cooperative and mutually beneficial relationship whereby Goodwill Industries obtains real work experience for clients transitioning into the workforce through placement at the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District (Metro Health) where they provide data entry and general office services at no cost. The term of the agreement will begin upon execution to January 1, 2018.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Goodwill Industries enhances the dignity and quality of life of individuals, families, and communities by eliminating barriers to opportunity and helping people in need reach their fullest potential through the power of work. Goodwill Industries is a leading nonprofit provider of education, training, and career services for people with disadvantages, such as welfare dependency, homelessness, and lack of education or work experience, as well as those with physical, mental and emotional disabilities. Over the last several years, Metro Health and Goodwill Industries have developed a mutually beneficial collaboration in which Goodwill provides workers at no cost to help with data entry and general office work through the Goodwill/Good Health Work Project.
In turn, Metro Health provides Goodwill workers with valuable work experience to improve their job skills and prepare them for permanent jobs in the community. In the past, Goodwill workers have been assigned to the Immunization section where they work primarily entering immunization record information.
