Contract Award: World Heritage Underpass Infrastructure Project


SUMMARY:

An ordinance accepting the lowest responsive bid and awarding a construction contract including three additive alternates to S&B General Contractors, LLC in the amount of $317,746.03 for the World Heritage Underpass Infrastructure Project located in Council Districts 3 and 5. Funds are available from the 2012 - 2017 General Obligation Bond Program and the 2020 American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) Community Challenge Grant and are included in the FY 2021 - FY 2026 Capital Improvement Program.


BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Project Background
In 2017, through Ordinance 2017-09-21-0678, City Council approved the reprogramming of funds in the amount of $800,000.00 from the 2012-2017 General Obligation Bond Program Presa Ramps project to the World Heritage Underpass Infrastructure Project in the City's World Heritage area. Through the public input and design process for improvements for the World Heritage Underpass Infrastructure Project, residents and community members voiced the need for places to view the artwork, landscaping and improved pedestrian access such as wider sidewalks for those residents that require walking assistance. This project will provide for pedestrian improvements to include sidewalks, benches and landscaping such as the installation of native vegetation, hardscape and rock complements. Project construction is anticipated to begin in March 2021 and is estimated to be completed in August 2021.

In September 2020, the World Heritage Office was awarded a 2020 American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) Community Challenge Grant in the amount of $30,000.00 for the World Heritage Underpass Infrastructure Project.
