Job Order Contracts: Traffic Infrastructure Improvements around San Antonio International Airport
SUMMARY:
An Ordinance authorizing two task orders to Job Order Contracts with Alpha Building Corporation (Alpha) and Tejas Premier Building Contractor, Inc. (Tejas) for the construction work related to the ground transportation lot improvements, reduction of a traffic median and terminal curbside improvements at the San Antonio International Airport (SAT). Of the $600,000.00 for the construction work, the agreement, payable to Tejas, is in the amount not to exceed $410,000.00 and the agreement, payable to Alpha, is in the amount not to exceed $190,000.00. The Council action will also appropriate $600,000.00 from the Capital Improvement Fund, will amend the FY 2017-FY 2022 Capital Improvement Program, and with the payment being contingent upon the availability of funds to be provided through the proposed Interim Airport Financing.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
In an effort to improve the customer experience and coordinated with the opening of the Consolidated Rental Car Facility, the Aviation Department has begun implementing new programs to upgrade traffic signage and traffic markings at the San Antonio International Airport. On June 29, 2017, City Council authorized the appropriation of $148,000.00 through Ordinance 2017-06-29-0516 for the design work for a concrete traffic median reduction and ground transportation lot cut outs to mitigate traffic congestion in front of the terminals. The ground transportation lot is on the north east corner of Airport Blvd and Northern Blvd. As part of the project, the entrance to the ground transportation lot will move from the current location near Airport Blvd and Northern Blvd to reduce traffic congestion at that intersection.
