SUBJECT: 
June 5, 2021 Run-Off Election for Council Districts 1, 2, 3, 5, and 9. 
 
SUMMARY: 
An Ordinance canvassing the results of the June 5, 2021 Run-Off Election held in Council Districts 1, 2, 3, 5, and 9.
 
Upon adoption of the Ordinance declaring the official election results:
 
•                     Elected Officials will be presented with Certificates of Election;
•                     The City Clerk will administer the Oaths of Office and Statements of Elected Officer; and 
•                     The Drawing for 2021-2023 Mayor Pro Tem Terms of Office will be conducted
  
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: 
 
The City Charter requires Councilmembers to be elected by a majority vote from qualified electors voting in their respective Council District in said city election.  On May 12, 2021, the City Council ordered a Run-Off Election to be held on Saturday, June 5, 2021, for the purpose of electing members to Council Districts 1, 2, 3, 5, and 9 as no candidate received a majority of the votes cast in the General Election.   
 
ISSUE: 
The City Council, as the Canvassing Authority, will canvass the unofficial election results from the Saturday, June 5, 2021, Run-Off Election held in Council Districts 1, 2, 3, 5, and 9. 
 
ALTERNATIVES: 
There are no alternatives as Texas Election Law requires City Council to canvass the election results no later than (10) ten days after the election.  
 
FISCAL IMPACT: 
This is no fiscal impact associated with Canvassing Election Results.  
 
RECOMMENDATION: 
Staff recommends approval of this Ordinance.
