SUBJECT: A Contract Amendment for the HemisFair Park Play Escape Project (Yanaguana Garden Project)


SUMMARY:

An ordinance authorizing the negotiation and execution of a contract amendment to the Construction Manager at Risk contract with Joeris General Contractors, Ltd., increasing the scope of work in an amount not to exceed $2,018,550.00 for the HemisFair Park Play Escape (Yanaguana Garden) Project and related to the HemisFair Park Project, a 2012-2017 General Obligation Bond funded Project, located in Council District 1.


BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The voter approved 2012-2017 Bond Program included four (4) projects totaling $15 million for Parks, Recreation and Open Space Improvements at HemisFair Park. The projects are: 1) HemisFair Play Escape Project (Yanaguana Garden); 2) Magik Theatre Restoration; 3) Historic Homes; 4) The Civic Park. All are located within the HemisFair Park.

The Play Escape (Yanaguana Garden) Project will develop a high density play area in Hemisfair Park for people of all ages. Improvements such as an open park space, plazas, climbing structures, water and sand elements, new restrooms and a shaded promenade connecting these elements, are part of the project. The comprehensive Yanaguana Garden layout was designed to be built in two construction phases, Phase 1 and Phase 2. Phase 1 provided for the construction of all the initial site work, demolition, utilities infrastructure, and the core framework of the play structures, landscape, shaded promenade, and interactive water features through a CMR (Construction Manager at Risk) Project delivery contract in an amount not to exceed $3,981,450.00.
