SUBJECT:

 

Indigenous People’s Day

 

 

SUMMARY:

 

This item will recognize October 12th as Indigenous People’s Day.

 

 

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

 

At the October 8, 2015 City Council meeting, Councilmember Ray Saldana stated he supported a Resolution to recognize October 12th as Indigenous People’s Day in San Antonio.  Mayor Ivy Taylor, Councilmember Allan Warrick, and Councilmember Roberto C. Trevino also voiced their support of this Resolution. 

 

Bexar County has recognized October 12th as Indigenous People’s Day in Bexar County.

 

 

ISSUE:

 

Resolutions require a vote by City Council.

 

 

ALTERNATIVES:

 

City Council could chose to not recognize October 12th as Indigenous People’s Day or could choose another date as Indigenous People’s Day.

 

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

 

There is no fiscal impact associated with this item.

 

 

RECOMMENDATION:

 

Staff recommends approval of this item.
