Contract Award: (Construction Services) Central Library Chiller Replacement


SUMMARY:

An Ordinance for the Central Library Chiller Replacement Project, awarding a construction contract to EZ Mechanical, Inc. in an amount not to exceed $599,400.00, a 2012-2017 General Obligation Library Bond-funded Project located in Council District 1.


BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Project Background
On May 12, 2012, San Antonio voters approved the 2012-2017 Bond Program, including $4,000,000.00 for renovations, repairs, upgrades and space reconfiguration at the Central Library facility located in Council District 1. The improvements identified for the library have been divided into smaller projects to decrease the amount of interruptions to the Library patrons, staff and administration. Various individual projects have been planned to complete improvements, renovations, and major upgrades to the facility for a total amount of $4,000,000.00. In addition to the Chiller Replacement Project, the 2012 Bond Project at Central Library has completed the following improvements:

* First Floor Public Restroom Renovation
* Carpet Replacement on Floors Two, Five, and Six
* Exterior Building Signage
* Public Elevator Replacements
* Teen Center Renovation

This Project will remove and replace two existing water-cooled chiller units original to the building construction of 1995 (20 years old in 2015). The new chillers, each sized at 500-tons, will have capacity matching the chillers being replaced to serve the existing library building. The two chillers complement each other, providing redundant capacity to enable maintenance activities while sustaining operation.
