SUBJECT: 87th State Legislative Session Update
SUMMARY:
Briefing and possible action on legislation filed in the 87th Regular State Legislative Session. This briefing will provide information and an update on the status of proposed legislation and its potential impact on the City of San Antonio.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The 87th State Legislative Session began on January 12, 2021, and is now in its final month. May 31st is the last day of the 87th Regular State Legislative Session, and deadlines begin triggering during the second week of May. May 10th is the last day for House committees to report bills; any bill that has not been voted out of committee before this date is officially dead. May 14th is the final day the House can pass House Bills, other than local bills, out of the chamber. The City’s State Legislative Program provides an overview of the City’s priorities and provides guidance on the City’s legislative activity. This legislative update will focus on legislation that has an impact on the City's interests.

The legislative issues covered by this update will vary depending on legislative activity in the Texas Senate and the House of Representatives.
