CPS Energy's Grid Optimization Project and Solar Distributed Generation Program.
SUMMARY:
CPS Energy Staff will brief the City Council on the Grid Optimization Project and the Solar Distributed Generation Program.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
A monthly utility briefing will be conducted by CPS Energy to provide City Council with a briefing on the Grid Optimization Project and the Solar Distributed Generation Program.
Grid Optimization: CPS Energy is deploying its smart grid initiative that will upgrade the current grid to enable automated and two way communication between customers and the utility. CPS Energy will also discuss the benefits of a smart grid, timeline for deployment, communication timeline with customers and meter exchange provisions.
Solar Distributed Generation Program: CPS Energy will discuss its plan to significantly expand its Solar Distributed Generation (DG) Program by 25MW. The proposal includes $21 million of additional funding to expand rooftop, community solar, and solar leasing. CPS will also discuss ways to recover its cost of service to solar customers while maintaining net metering. In addition, it will outline plans to transition its existing solar program from incentive-based to a market-based model.
