SAFD-Kidde Fire Trainer System Upgrade


SUMMARY:

An ordinance accepting the offer from Kidde Fire Trainers, LLC to provide a system upgrade to the existing Kidde Fire Trainer at the San Antonio Fire Academy for a total cost of $67,820.00. Funding is available from the General Fund.


BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

This contract will provide the San Antonio Fire Department with a system upgrade to the existing Kidde Fire Trainer system at the San Antonio Fire Academy. The Fire Trainer system provides realistic live fire training to cadets and current firefighters within the department, in addition to other regional resources.


The Kidde Fire Trainer T-2000 system is the original system that was constructed with the burn building at the SAFD Fire Training Academy in 2005. Over the term of use, the components of the system have become obsolete. The purchase of new replacement sensors and other key components is required to ensure functionality of the Fire Trainer system in future years. The system upgrade will include a new Tower PC Upgrade consisting of the following: Dell OptiPlex 3020 Small Form Factor, Monitor (24") ASUS VE247H Black 23.6 Inch LCD Monitor, printer, UPS and with proprietary software, Aqua-Mesh Desk Prop upgrade and two infrared sensor replacements.

This item is being purchased as a Sole Source, according to the provisions of Texas Statutes Local Government Code 252.002.07 no other source can supply the item listed, nor can any comparable item fulfill the same requirement.



ISSUE:

This contract will provide the San Antonio Fire Department with a system upgrade to the current Kidde Fire Trainer system. Several components to the existing trainer have now become obsolete and require upgrading to remain operational.
