SUMMARY:

An Ordinance declaring the Official Results of the Special Election to fill the Unexpired Term of Office in Council District 2 held on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 and Ordering a Run-off Election to be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2014.

The calendar leading up to the Tuesday, December 9, 2014 Run-off Election is:

Monday, November 10, 2014
5:00 pm - Last day to register to vote for Run-off Election
Thursday, November 13, 2014
1:00 pm - Drawing for a Place on the Run-off Ballot (REVISED)
Wednesday, November 26, 2014
5:00 pm - Last day for Bexar County Elections to receive an application for a Mail Ballot
Monday, December 1, 2014 to Friday, December 5, 2014
Early Voting from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm

Canvassing of Run-off Election Results

Additionally, this Ordinance establishes Early Voting and Election Day polling locations for the Tuesday, December 9, 2014 District 2 Run-off Election.


BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

On July 22, 2014 via Ordinance 2014-07-22-0518, the City Council Ordered a Special City Election for the purpose of filling the Vacancy in Council District 2. Said Vacancy was a result of Ivy R. Taylor being appointed as Mayor. As more than 270 (two hundred and seventy) days were left on the term of Office for Councilmember; Section 8 of the City Charter requires an Election be held to fill the Vacancy in City Council District 2.

A total of six (6) Candidates submitted Applications for the District 2 Vacancy by the deadline of Thursday, August 21, 2014 with one (1) Candidate withdrawing. ...
