Briefing and possible action on a grant not to exceed $500,000.00 from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) grant titled High Priority-Commercial Motor Vehicle (HP-CMV) program.
SUMMARY:
The San Antonio Police Department will provide the Public Safety Committee with a briefing on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) grant titled High Priority-Commercial Motor Vehicle (HP-CMV) Program. The grant period will be from the date of award through September 30, 2022. This grant, not to exceed $500,000.00, will help augment the San Antonio Police Department's (SAPD) effort to combat aggressive driving behaviors of both passenger and commercial motor vehicle drivers through enforcement and public information and education. This grant will also increase enforcement of commercial motor vehicles safety inspections including driver qualifications by the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit. This grant requires an in-kind match not to exceed $88,301, and the total budget of the grant will be will $588,301.
The acceptance of this grant is scheduled for City Council consideration in "A" Session on September 17, 2020.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Division is dedicating funds for traffic safety projects such as the?High Priority-Commercial Motor Vehicle enforcement program.
The major objectives of the program are to reduce the number and severity of crashes involving commercial motor vehicles through enforcement and education.
