SUBJECT:

An Ordinance authorizing the street name change of Verano Parkway to Jaguar Parkway, between S. Zarzamora and the Missouri Pacific Railroad Co.

SUMMARY:

Todd Mocabee, on behalf of Texas A&M, San Antonio, requested the street name change of Verano Parkway to Jaguar Parkway, between S. Zarzamora and the Missouri Pacific Railroad Co.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The Texas A&M University System, at the request of the Texas Legislature, began construction on the Texas A&M, San Antonio campus in May of 2010 on what will eventually be a 580-acre site on the city's South Side, an area that has historically been underserved in higher education. The University plans to have enrollment of 25,000 students by 2025, with future capacity up to 100,000 students for San Antonio and the surrounding community.
Texas A&M San Antonio, in order to increase enthusiasm within the student body and develop a permanent presence within the community, directed Todd Mocabee, Director of Construction and Facilities to submit the request to change Verano Parkway to Jaguar Parkway, in honor of the University's mascot. The change will help promote the Texas A&M, San Antonio Jaguars now and in the future.
