SUBJECT:
An Ordinance Appointing a Replacement City Councilmember for District 7.
SUMMARY:
On Tuesday, July 22, 2014, the Mayor and Council approved a Resolution 2014-07-22-0028 acknowledging the Temporary Vacancy in the Office of City Council District 7. Said action was necessary due to the Councilmember Medina being activated into Military Service from August 4, 2014 to October 10, 2014.
The Office of the City Clerk accepted applications for the Temporary District 7 Vacancy from Monday, July 28, 2014 until 5:00 pm on Friday, August 8, 2014.
At the Wednesday, August 13, 2014 "B" Session, Finalists were selected. On Thursday, August 14, 2014 at the Regular City Council Meeting, each Finalist will be provided time to make a statement to the Mayor and Council. Citizens signed up to speak on the Appointment will be heard. The City Council will take an individual Roll Call Vote to fill the Vacancy. In the event no one Finalist receives a Majority Vote, a second Vote will be conducted. With at least 8 affirmative votes, the Appointment will take effect immediately. After being Sworn-In by the City Clerk, the new Councilmember may take a seat on the Dais.
The City Council may recess into Executive Session on this matter at any time.
The Appointee will hold office from August 4, 2014 to October 10, 2014.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
On Thursday, July 17, 2014 District 7 Councilmember Cris Medina submitted a Letter notifying the Mayor and Council of his Temporary Military Assignment with the U.S. Air Force.
The Term of his Military Assignment is from Monday, August 4, 2014 to Friday, October 10, 2014.
