SUBJECT:

Cell Phone Lot Flight Status Screen Purchase and Installation at the San Antonio International Airport

SUMMARY:

This Ordinance authorizes a Job Order Contract (JOC) task order with Alpha Building Corporation (Alpha) for the purchase and installation of a full color LED screen with cabinet and associated electrical and technical work for the cell phone lot at San Antonio International Airport. The screen will provide flight status and other information to motorists waiting to pick-up passengers at the terminal. The proposal is in the amount of $146,084.39. Funding was previously authorized and appropriated from the Airport Improvement & Contingency Fund and is included in the in the FY 2019 Capital Improvement Program.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The San Antonio Airport System consistently looks to improve the customer experience at the gate and the terminal buildings or waiting in vehicles to pick-up passengers. Most recently, the cell phone lot was relocated next to the Phillips 66 gas station at the intersection of Airport Blvd and Northern Blvd so motorists could have access to purchase meals from Burger King or items from the QMart.

The Airport System would like to purchase and install a full color Multi-User Flight Information Display System (MUFIDS) LED screen so motorists could view the flight status and other information while waiting to pick up their passengers. The new screen will take 14 to 16 weeks to manufacture and deliver. Work will also include the purchase and installation of steel supports for the sign with concrete footings; shop drawings; electrical connections and the development of an interface with the new sigh.

Funding was previously authorized and appropriated from the Airport Improvement & Contingency Fund and is included in the in the FY 2019 Capital Improvement Program.
