SUBJECT:
Dais Creston Panel Upgrade for Communications and Public Affairs

SUMMARY:
This ordinance authorizes a contract with UNICOM Government, Inc. to upgrade the dais Crestron control panels for a total of $147,672.00. Funding was appropriated through the FY2014 budget; PEG (Public, Education and Government Channel) Fund.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The Communications and Public Affairs department is responsible for the dais Crestron system that provides audio/video and voting agenda capabilities in the City Council Chambers. The dais Crestron system was installed in 2007.

This proposed contract provides labor, equipment and materials to upgrade the existing Crestron control panels. UNICOM Government, Inc. will coordinate with the Communications and Public Affairs Department to install the new system during the July City Council break.

The Communications and Public Affairs Department took over the management of the Government, Public and Education Access channels in 2006, in conjunction with the passage of Senate Bill 5. The department is responsible for the management of the Public, Government and Education Access channels.

ISSUE:
Replacement parts for the existing dais Crestron control panels are no longer manufactured and the panels need to be upgraded.

The entire dais Crestron system is vulnerable to failure, due to the inability to replace the current control panel parts. The dais Crestron system is the most critical component of the dais that is necessary in the week-to-week operation of conducting City Council meetings in the Council Chambers.

This contract is within the scope of the Small Business Economic Development Advocacy (SBEDA) Program. However, due to the type of commodities/services being procured and value of the contract, no SBEDA tool is available.
