SUBJECT: Column Case Management Grant

SUMMARY:

An Ordinance authorizing the acceptance of a grant award in the amount of $33,302.00 from the Office of the Governor, Criminal Justice Division (CJD) for the Column Case Management project, technical support, and maintenance that will update the Police Case Management System beginning October 1, 2014 and ending September 30, 2015.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) submitted a Criminal Justice application to the Office of the Governor, Criminal Justice Division, for the Column Case Management project. CJD granted an award in the amount of $33,302.00 for partial funding this project beginning October 1, 2014 through September 30, 2015. The submission of the application was authorized with a Special Category Grant Opportunity Authorization with final approval given on February 3, 2014.

The total proposed project budget is $1,618,302.00. This includes grant funding of $33,302. The remainder of the funds is existing IT Capital Project funds in the amount of $910,000 and SAPD Asset Forfeiture funds in the amount of $675,000.

This partial funding will be used to provide vendor professional services on the Police Case Management System Project, which will implement a new criminal case management software solution used by Investigative Units to solve crimes.

In addition to providing a streamlined case management workflow, the system will integrate with the existing SAPD Automated Field Reporting and Record Management System (RMS). All crimes reported in the RMS will automatically initiate a new case being created, route it to the correct Investigative Unit, and alert Command Staff and Supervisors of the need to assign a Detective to the case.
