SUBJECT:
Passenger Boarding Bridge LED Lighted Gate Signs & Installation for the Aviation Department

SUMMARY:
This ordinance authorizes a contract with ThyssenKrupp Airport Systems, Inc. to provide the Aviation Department with the fabrication, delivery, and installation of three-sided, light-emitting diode (LED) lighted numerical designator ramp gate approach signs for a total cost of $107,243.98. Funding will be available from the FY 2014 Airport Operating and Maintenance Fund.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

To enhance safety for aircraft, passengers and equipment, the Aviation Department proposes the installation of LED lighted gate signs (Gate Signs) on the top of twenty-four passenger boarding bridge cabs. These gate signs will provide a clearer visual path for airline pilots as they approach the gates.

The gate signs from ThyssenKrupp Airport Systems, Inc. will be covered by a 12 months parts and labor warranty.

ISSUE:
The City issued an Invitation for Bid to provide the Aviation Department with 24 three-sided, light-emitting diode lighted numerical designator Gate Signs to conform with industry standards and provide safer gates for airline pilots, especially in low light conditions.
