A briefing on the status of the initial draft Comprehensive Plan existing conditions reports.
 
 
SUMMARY:
 
This briefing is to provide an overview and status update on the initial draft Comprehensive Plan existing conditions reports.  
 
 
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
 
The Comprehensive Plan consultant team (MIG) is preparing an existing conditions report to understand and document San Antonio's current conditions, issues, and opportunities in eight critical areas. The Report will provide a "snapshot" of the eight areas in the City of San Antonio that will serve as a baseline for analysis as well as a measuring tool to monitor progress and change after the Plan's adoption.  
§      Housing, Growth, and Population
§      Land Use
§      Urban Form & Urban Design
§      Transportation
§      Community Health
§      Sustainability
§      Military
§      Economic
 
 
ISSUE:
 
The existing conditions report will summarize baseline data, and include maps, graphics, photos, and narrative text addressing the following eight policy areas:
 
§      Housing, Growth, and Population: Summary of population, household and employment trends in San Antonio, as well as historical land use patterns and policies. This also will include a summary of housing conditions based on work prepared by the consultant working on the 5-year Federal Consolidated Plan.
 
§      Land Use: Summary of historical land use patterns, plans, and policies.
 
§      Urban Form & Urban Design:  Summary of existing policies related to urban design and a synopsis of the physical form of the urban area.
 
§      Transportation: Summary of existing transportation and mobility conditions and background data.
 
§      Community Health: Summary of public health topics including physical activity levels, land use patterns and transportation networks as they relate to active transportation, and access to nutritious foods, health care and health facilities.
 
§      Sustainability: Summary of the existing conditions in the community related to sustainability, relative to both the built and natural environment, including water and energy use and efficiency, green buildings and climate change adaptation.
 
§      Military: Summary of existing conditions related to the military presence in San Antonio, describing future growth plans for military bases, and identifying background data to be utilized for policy development as they relate to the vision for the city's military presence.
 
§      Economic: Summary of economic trends including major employers, industries and occupations.
 
The Department of Planning and Community Development has distributed the draft report for review to the various City Departments.  Department comments will be submitted to the consultant for integration into the final report.
