SUBJECT:
National League of Cities Residential Water and Wastewater Service Line Warranty Program
SUMMARY:
Brian Davis from the National League of Cities will provide Council with a briefing relating to its Residential Water and Wastewater Service Line Warranty Program.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
SAWS is responsible for maintaining the water line from the main to the customer's water meter. Customers are responsible for repairs to any part of the water system from the meter toward their home or business. In addition, customers are responsible for repairs of their sewer lateral line that runs from the sewer main to their home or business. The National League of Cities (NLC) Residential Water and Wastewater Service Line Warranty Program provides residents who experience unexpected water and sewer line repairs the opportunity to obtain a warranty that will provide repairs for a low fee. The program is administered by Utility Service Partners, Inc. (USP). USP is headquartered in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania and is a leading provider of service line warranties in the United States. All repairs are performed by licensed, local plumbers.
There is no cost for the City to participate in the program. The City would receive a share of the revenues collected.
ISSUE:
Residents sometimes experience unexpected and potentially costly water and sewer line repairs. The NLC's Residential Water and Wastewater Service Line Program offers residents warranties that cover the cost of these repairs.
