Thermal Traffic Detection Cameras


SUMMARY:
This ordinance authorizes a contract with Control Technologies, Inc. for the purchase of 25 thermal traffic detection cameras for a total cost of $59,000.00. Funding is available from the FY 2015 Transportation and Capital Improvements Department General Fund-Traffic Signal Maintenance Project.


BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Submitted for City Council consideration and action is the offer submitted by Control Technologies, Inc. utilizing the Texas Multiple Award Schedule Program (TXMAS) Contract Agreement Number 550-801-A2 effective through August 31, 2015 to provide 25 thermal traffic detection cameras for a total cost of $59,000.00.

This contract will provide the Transportation and Capital Improvements Department, Traffic Division with 25 thermal traffic detection cameras which are installed and utilized at signalized intersections that have high glare or low light visibility and require enhanced vehicle detection equipment. The thermal camera will clearly identify images through smoke, light fog and glare as well as to view thermal patterns in the total absence of light.


ISSUE:
This contract will provide the Transportation and Capital Improvements Department, Traffic Division with enhanced signal detection in areas such as under overpasses that have differences with light conditions where the enhanced thermal camera detection equipment is required.

These units will be purchased from Control Technologies, Inc. utilizing the Texas Multiple Award Schedule Program (TXMAS) Contract Agreement Number 550-801-A2. This purchase will be made in accordance with the State Cooperative Program passed on resolution No. 91-39-53 dated 9/12/1991.

The thermal traffic detection cameras include a 10 year warranty for defects of parts.
