SUMMARY
Standing Committee providing oversight of the San Antonio Municipal Court system
BACKGROUND
On April 2, 2015, Councilmember Ron Nirenberg filed a Council Consideration Request (CCR) to discuss the establishment of a committee charged with providing oversight of the San Antonio Municipal Court system.
City Council created a Municipal Court Advisory Committee in 2007 to function as a judicial liaison with City Council and provide recommendations on matters pertaining to Municipal Court including judicial nominations. This committee has been dormant for a number of years.
ISSUE
Staff will study current needs and best practices of an oversight committee and return to Governance Committee for further direction
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends the Municipal Court Advisory Committee, including its mission and composition, be reconfigured to be in line with current needs and best practices. Staff will return to the Governance Committee with a proposed new structure of the Advisory Committee and a recommendation of future Council Committee oversight.
