Traffic Operations 2015 Intersection Improvements
SUMMARY:
This ordinance authorizes a contract with DHS Security d/b/a 3Sixty Integrated to provide the Transportation and Capital Improvements Department with 40 exterior pan, tilt, zoom (PTZ) cameras to include installation, programming, testing and an additional 10 spare cameras. The total cost of this contract is $239,367.67. Funding is available from the FY15 ATD Intersection Improvement Project.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
In FY 2008, the City embarked on a five-year, $31 million, Traffic Signal System Modernization and Synchronization Project to provide for a high-bandwidth, comprehensive communications network, an upgraded Advanced Traffic Management System, and the development of optimized traffic signal timings.
Although the project has been completed, the challenge of maintaining an efficient and safe transportation network continues. It is imperative that the operational gains achieved through this project be maintained and expanded upon. The foundation laid by the new communication network and traffic control equipment can be built upon to continue to enhance the system. Increasing the number of traffic surveillance cameras to provide better visibility into traffic issues at intersections on priority corridors will enable staff at the Traffic Management Center to more quickly take action when incidents occur and remotely verify proper operation of signalized intersections without having to utilize manpower in the field.
The cameras and the related services will be procured from DHS Security, LLC d/b/a 3Sixty Integrated through BuyBoard cooperative contract #401-12.
