SUMMARY:
Possible Board action to approve the recommended insurance company, Markel American Insurance Company, for Property, Casualty, Director and Officers insurance for the North, South, East and West Education Centers with a total premium of approximately $100,000.00 [Kathy Bruck, Pre-K 4 SA CEO]
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that Pre-K 4 SA maintains with the seven participating independent school districts (ISD) requires that Pre-K 4 SA uphold a third-party insurance policy to cover the following areas:
* Worker's Compensation (provided by the City of San Antonio)
* Errors and Omissions
* Directors' and Officers' Liability
* Commercial General Liability
* Abuse & Molestation Liability
* Automobile Liability (Hired & Non-Owned Only)
* Program Consultants
* Excess Umbrella Liability
* Student Accident Insurance
During the September 9, 2014 Board meeting, the Board ratified the purchase of insurance coverage for the North and South Education Centers from Markel American Insurance Company for a total premium of approximately $50,214.00. On October 7, 2014, the Board ratified the purchase of insurance coverage for the East and West Education Centers from Markel with a total premium of approximately $37,950.00.
ISSUE:
Pre-K 4 SA must ensure that insurance coverage remains in effect for the four Education Centers, without lapse. In May 2015, Pre-K 4 SA insurance brokerage company McGriff, Seibels, and Williams provided staff with a quote for required types of insurance coverage outlined in the Pre-K 4 SA MOU for the four Education Centers. The total annual premium is approximately $100,000.00.
ALTERNATIVES:
Pre-K 4 SA is required by the MOU with participating ISDs to maintain insurance coverage in the following areas:
* Worker's Compensation (provided by the City of San Antonio)
