SUBJECT:
Briefing and update on public engagement strategies for SA Tomorrow

SUMMARY:
Briefing and update on public engagement strategies for SA Tomorrow

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Public engagement is an important component of the SA Tomorrow initiative.  Engagement with the public began with the SA Tomorrow Community Kick-Off Event on April 11.  Since then, staff has attended over 50 "go-to-them meetings" and interacted with approximately 5,000 people to encourage participation in the plan creation process.  The on-line survey on the Transportation Plan tab of the SA Tomorrow website has generated over 2,500 responses and will close on May 30.  The mind mixer on-line engagement tool on the Sustainability Plan tab of the SA Tomorrow website has had 300 people sign up for continued dialogue throughout the process.

ISSUE:
The public engagement process allows San Antonio residents to provide feedback and input on the growth-related plans.  To date, SA Tomorrow has approximate 1,000 "friends' on Facebook and 750 people "follow us" on Twitter.  The goal throughout the planning process is to reach 20,000 plus people.  Through Facebook posting and re-posting, we estimate that approximately 27,000 people were exposed to the SA Tomorrow information and had the opportunity to participate.  Staff and the respective consultant teams will continue community outreach to increase the number of face-to-face interactions as well as survey and mind mixer participation.
