Latino Americans: 500 Years of History Grant Award Acceptance and Budget Appropriation
SUMMARY:
This ordnance authorizes the acceptance of grant funds in the amount of $3,000 in support of the Latino Americans: 500 Years of History initiative. This grant is made available by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the American Library Association (ALA). The Library Department applied for this grant as part of the Library's effort to expand its programs and public awareness for Hispanic Heritage Month and Cesar Chavez Celebration at the San Antonio Public Library for the period September 1, 2015 to June 30, 2016.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The San Antonio Public Library plans to implement several programs to highlight and inform the community about Latino American's impact on the USA in the last 500 years. Program efforts will take place during Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15, 2015 - October 15, 2015) and March through April of 2016 to include Cesar Chavez Celebration. The purpose of these programs is to increase the community's access to information about Latino American history in San Antonio and the rest of the country through screenings, panel discussions, exhibits and other programming.
ISSUE:
Acceptance of funds awarded by the NEH and ALA grant will increase patron access to information through programming from San Antonio Public Library.
ALTERNATIVES:
If acceptance of this grant is not provided, the San Antonio Public Library will continue to seek other appropriate sources of funding for this project.
FISCAL IMPACT:
