SUBJECT:

Board Appointments

 

 

SUMMARY:

 

A)                     Appointing Siboney Diaz-Sanchez (District 1) and R. Joy McGhee (District 3) to the Zoning Commission for the remainder of an unexpired term of office to expire May 31, 2017.

 

B)                     Reappointing Rudi Harst (District 3) to the Citizens’ Environmental Advisory Committee for the remainder of an unexpired term of office to expire May 31, 2017.

 

C)                     Appointing Yadhira Lozano (District 3) to the San Antonio Arts Commission for the remainder of an unexpired term of office to expire May 31, 2017. 

 

D)                     Appointing Margarita A. DeLeon (District 3) to the San Antonio Public Library Board of Trustees for the remainder of an unexpired term of office to expire September 30, 2016.

 

E)                     Reappointing Daniel A. Lopez (Mayoral) to the HemisFair Park Area Redevelopment Corporation for the remainder of an unexpired term of office to expire August 13, 2019.

 

F)                     Appointing Councilmember Ray Lopez (District 6), Councilmember Rey Saldaña (District 4), Councilmember Shirley Gonzales (District 5), Councilmember Ron Nirenberg (District 8), and Councilmember Joe Krier (District 9 to the VIA Local Government Approval Committee.

 

 

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Applications for District Boards were submitted to the Office of the City Clerk who coordinated review of the applications with the pertinent City Departments and the City Attorney's Office.  Qualified applications were forwarded to the respective City Council Offices for their review.  A memorandum designating the Councilmember's appointee was submitted to the Office of the City Clerk for processing.

 

The VIA Local Government Approval Committee requires five members appointed by the Mayor. VIA held a public hearing to receive comments on proposed adjustments to the fare structure, and was approved by the VIA Board of Trustees in September, the proposed fare adjustments will be presented to the Local Governmental Approval Committee, a group of elected officials that gathers to approve or deny any changes to VIA's fare structure. With the concurrence of this body, the new fares become effective Jan. 1, 2016.

 

 

 

ISSUE:

Board appointments require full City Council approval.

 

ALTERNATIVES:

The Office of the City Clerk will continue to advertise vacancies.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no fiscal impact.

 

RECOMMENDATION:

In order to proceed with the direction of the City Council, the Office of the City Clerk recommends approval of the Board Appointments.
