Briefing on the second meeting of the Comprehensive Plan Advisory Group and enhanced community engagement for SA Tomorrow.
SUMMARY:
The Comprehensive Plan Advisory Group (CPAG) will meet for the second time on Wednesday, December 16, 2015. This briefing will provide an overview of the meeting’s agenda as well as an update on efforts being made to further enhance the community engagement component of SA Tomorrow.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The Comprehensive Plan Advisory Group (CPAG) is a stakeholder group representing government, community and non-profit entities that have significant interest in the prosperity of San Antonio to serve as a platform for the exchange of information and alignment of existing and future planning efforts. The City of San Antonio will continue to engage the CPAG after the adoption of the Comprehensive Plan.
The first meeting took place on January 13, 2015, where group was asked to assign or make available technical staff to assist with Plan Element Working Groups, engage their constituencies and workforces in the planning process, and lend institutional resources to the comprehensive planning process and openly provide their organization’s long-term plans for synchronization with the Comprehensive Plan. Members were asked to provide data relevant to the Comprehensive Planning process and support public outreach and the dissemination of information to audiences that may be difficult for city staff to access.
ISSUE:
Comprehensive Plan Advisory Group
This will be the second meeting of the Comprehensive Plan Advisory Group (CPAG). This meeting will focus on the role the CPAG plays in aligning their organizations plans with that of the City as well as providing critical information to the planning process. The CPAG members will be updated on the status of the comprehensive plan that will include the Plan Element Working Group draft goals and policies as well as the upcoming community engagement opportunities. City staff will ask CPAG members if they have ideas on ways to increase awareness and participation in SA Tomorrow, especially to demographics not easily accessed by city staff. City staff also will share the CPAG’s internal planning documents or relevant data with the Plan Element Working Groups.
Community Engagement
The Department of Planning & Community Development sought proposals to further enhance the community engagement component of SA Tomorrow. Staff has reviewed the proposals and is working to further develop the scope by enhancing the crucial public and media relations component. Funding for this effort will come from a recommended Community Development Block Grant reprogramming to be considered by the City Council at a future date. The reprogramming funds will be combined with identified department General Funds to further develop the budget for this scope.
