SUBJECT:

Purchase of Two Shuttle Buses



SUMMARY:

This ordinance authorizes a contract with National Bus Sales & Leasing, Inc. to provide one replacement 23 passenger shuttle bus and one additional 23 passenger shuttle bus for a total cost of $238,223.56. These buses will be used by the Department of Human Services senior services programs. The replacement bus is funded by the Equipment Renewal and Replacement Fund (ERRF) for a total cost of $119,111.78; and the additional bus is $119,111.78 as part of the FY 2016 Appropriated Budget for Capital Outlay to be paid from the General Fund.



BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Submitted for City Council consideration and action is the offer submitted by National Bus Sales & Leasing, Inc. utilizing cooperative purchasing contract number 071-072-AT through Texas Comptroller Contract (TXMAS) for the purchase of two 23-passenger shuttle buses for a total cost of $238,223.56. There are currently nine 23 passenger buses and two shuttle buses that seat 12 passengers in use for senior services. The additional bus is being purchased to support the new Council District 3 Senior Services Center and will increase the fleet to 12 buses. This additional bus will be placed in the Equipment Renewal and Replacement program. There are also 32 light duty vans that are in use by the Department of Human Services for senior programs.


Vehicles and equipment that meet their expected life cycle are sold at auction. If the Fleet asset is in the ERRF then the proceeds are returned to the fund. The proceeds are then used to purchase new similar vehicles and equipment for the same department that operated the sold fleet asset. The equipment being replaced will be sold at auction.
