Rigging Services for the Alamodome


SUMMARY:

This ordinance authorizes the ratification of an interim contract with Upstage Center, Inc. to provide rigging services at the Alamodome for the Convention and Sports Facilities Department for an estimated amount of $201,000.00 through October 20, 2016. Funding for this contract is available through the Hotel Occupancy Tax Alamodome Fund.



BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Submitted for Council consideration and action is the ratification of an interim contract with Upstage Center, Inc. in the estimated amount of $201,000.00 to provide rigging services at the Alamodome for the Convention and Sports Facilities. Rigging services are needed to transition from one event to another, perform special projects or maintenance and repair tasks. Upstage Center, Inc. will engineer, plan, layout, and calculate formulas to ensure roof rigs are not overloaded. The vendor is responsible for safely suspending provided rigging from the Alamodome ceiling; installing banners, trusses, curtain systems, sound and lighting equipment necessary for event productions. Services were procured utilizing a public health or safety exemption due to the suspension of the current vendor's contract.



ISSUE:

This ordinance will ratify the interim contract to perform rigging services at the Alamodome for the Convention and Sports Facilities Department. Rigging services are required to transition from one event to another at the Alamodome and for other special projects or maintenance and repair tasks. The contract shall provide an onsite Rigging Supervisor to manage the operations and personnel such as up riggers, down riggers, pullers, spot light operators and stagehands to perform the required services. The contractor will engineer, plan, layout, and calculate formulas to ensure roof rigs are not overloaded.
