SUBJECT:
City of San Antonio to Transfer Ownership of 5.5 Acres of Land within the Boundaries of the San Antonio Missions National Historic Park to the National Park Service

SUMMARY:
In June 2015, the City of San Antonio, Bexar County, and the San Antonio River Authority, with support from U.S. House of Representative Lloyd Doggett, signed letters of intent to transfer 121 acres of land to the National Park Service, including 5.5 acres from the City of San Antonio's Mission Drive-In area. The City's conveyance of the land is considered to be view-shed property and part of the National Park Service's expanded boundary for the San Antonio Missions National Historic Park. Upon the land conveyance from the City to the National Park Service by April 2016, the National Park Service will manage the transferred lands.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
In accordance with the Programming Agreement, executed in May 2006 and amended in August 2006, between the U.S. Corps of Engineers, the National Park Service (NPS), San Antonio River Authority, and the State Historic Preservation Officer Regarding Implementation of the Mission Reach Ecosystem Restoration and Recreation Project of the San Antonio Channel Improvement Project, San Antonio, Texas (Mission Reach Project), approximately 75 acres at Mission San Juan was acquired to mitigate impacts on approximately 50 acres of NPS land within the boundary of the San Antonio Missions Natural Historic Park impacted in the completion of the Mission Reach Project along the San Antonio River.

In addition to these mitigation properties, 5.5 acres of City of San Antonio property adjacent to Mission San Jose are critical to the mission view-shed.
