ACTION TYPE: Final Design Review

SUMMARY:
This item is to approve the final design by selected artist Cathy Cunningham-Little for 2012-2017 Bond project for the District 2 Fire Station 18.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
As the result of the City of San Antonio's 2012-2017 Bond Program, a new fire station located in District 2 has been established. On April 2, 2015 PASA completed the process to update new additions to the public art pre-qualified roster. In February PASA established an artist selection panel of five panelists: Carl Wedige, Deputy Chief San Antonio Fire Department; Akeem Brown, District 2 Council Office representative; Ethel Shipton, District 2 artist; Nettie Hinton, San Antonio Arts Commission; and Jessica Sanchez, San Antonio Arts Commission. The artist selection panel met to review artist qualifications, evaluate and score a shortlist of artists, review and discuss finalists, and recommended artist Cathy Cunningham-Little on May 29, 2015. Cathy Cunningham-Little specializes in treated glass, reflective surfaces, and multiple lighting types and applications.

The San Antonio Arts Commission: Public Art Committee approved pre-qualified artist, Cathy-Cunningham Little, on June 6, 2015. The San Antonio Arts Commission approved pre-qualified artist, Cathy-Cunningham-Little, on June 16, 2015.

The proposed artwork design features a dichroic glass installation located in the apparatus bay on the northwest corner of the new District 2 Fire Station 18.The San Antonio Arts Commission: Public Art Committee approved conceptual design on November 3, 2015.

ISSUE:
Approval of final design will allow artist to move forward into fabrication.

ALTERNATIVES:
Should final design not be approved, the artist will be asked to bring back final design to the Public Art Committee for review.
