SUBJECT:

Funding Agreement: Chabad Center for Jewish Life and Learning

SUMMARY:

An ordinance authorizing the execution of a Funding Agreement between the City of San Antonio and Chabad Center for Jewish Life and Learning, accepting $14,000.00 as partial funding for the City's installation of an overhead flashing beacon at 14535 Blanco Road, a Neighborhood Access and Mobility Program (NAMP) funded project, located in City Council District 9.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Council District 9 has elected to complete an overhead flashing beacon project at 14535 Blanco Road to alert motorists of Chabad Center's entrance and location through the use of the District 9 Neighborhood Access and Mobility Program (NAMP) funds. The Chabad Center has offered to partner with the City to complete the traffic improvements on Blanco Road.

The Project will include the construction of an overhead flashing beacon near 14535 Blanco Road on real estate owned by the Chabad Center. At the request of Councilman Krier and the Chabad Center, the Transportation & Capital Improvements Department has assessed traffic on Blanco Road and determined an overhead flashing beacon would be beneficial to the Chabad Center by alerting motorists of the Center's entrance location, given that Blanco is a major arterial with five lanes and the volume of traffic it carries on a daily basis. The Chabad Center will contribute $14,000.00 towards the construction of the project and District 9 Councilman Krier has committed to fund the remaining $34,000.00 from the District 9 NAMP Funds.
Construction is anticipated to begin in July 2016 and anticipated to be completed by August 2016.
