COUNCIL DISTRICTS IMPACTED:  City Wide

SUBJECT:  Fiber Construction Notification Process

SUMMARY:

The presentation is to provide an update to the Transportation, Technology and Utilities (TTU) Committee on the processes that are taken by Gigabit fiber companies when they begin construction in city neighborhoods and how they notify citizens of their impacted neighborhoods.

BACKGROUND:

Google Fiber announced on Wednesday, August 5, 2015, that they would be officially building their fiber-to-the-home network in San Antonio. AT&T announced on Monday, September 21, 2015, that they would officially be building their GigaPower fiber-to-the-home services. Both of these services will require construction in the right-of-way and easements that are in San Antonio neighborhoods. The City would like to discuss strategies in notifying citizens and minimizing neighborhood and community impact during construction.

ISSUE:

Google and AT&T staff will provide a presentation on their plan to provide services to San Antonio residents with minimal impact to citizens during the construction phase of fiber-to-home delivery
