SUBJECT:

License Agreement between Spurs Sports & Entertainment and the City of San Antonio.


SUMMARY:

This ordinance authorizes the execution of a license agreement between the City of San Antonio and Spurs Sports & Entertainment for a period of one (1) year, with up to four (4) one-year (1) renewal options for the Annual Employee Service Recognition Awards.


BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The Employee Service Recognition is an annual event recognizing City of San Antonio employees celebrating their service anniversary and their guests. The City of San Antonio recognizes service anniversaries in five-year increments (5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, etc.). The previous contract with SeaWorld San Antonio expired following the October 3, 2015 Employee Service Recognition event.

To gauge employee interest in the venue options, employees reaching a service milestone in 2016 were surveyed. The event receiving the highest interest by the surveyed group was attending a pre-season Spurs game. Staff also conducted three focus group sessions with future honorees to better understand the survey results.

Following the survey results, Staff conducted a site visit to the AT&T Center to meet with representatives from Spurs Sports & Entertainment to view facilities and discuss logistics.


ISSUE:

This ordinance authorizes the execution of a license agreement between the City of San Antonio and Spurs Sports & Entertainment for a period of one year, with up to four (4) one-year (1) period renewal options for the Annual Employee Service Recognition Awards.


ALTERNATIVES:

Should this contract not be approved, Human Resources would need to examine additional locations and options to host the Annual Employee Service Awards event.
