SUMMARY:
This item is to provide an update to the FY 2017 Arts Funding process.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The Department for Culture & Creative Development invests in arts and cultural programs that deliver excellence, innovation and engage audiences in the unique experience of San Antonio. To achieve this goal, several programs are implemented that support a wide range of arts and cultural organizations, individual artists, artist collectives and neighborhood groups to collectively engage audiences in the arts for our diverse community. These programs include Cultural Arts Operational Support for Live Performances, Museums, Visual Arts & Exhibition Institutions, and Community Based Organizations, stART Place Program, Festivals & Community Celebrations, and the Artist Re-Granting Program.

The four stages of the arts funding process include Application Submittal, Eligibility Review, Evaluation, and Funding Recommendations. The competitive arts funding process began in January 2016 with over 30 Arts Funding Workshops held to educate prospective applicants from the community on the application process and guidelines, answer questions, and provide technical assistance on how to utilize the new user-friendly online application that was introduced this year. The application process opened on March 4, 2016 with access to the new online application. On April 1, 2016, the application closed with 82 applications submitted. DCCD staff conducts an eligibility review to ensure all applicants meet the criteria set forth in the Arts Funding Guidelines. During the evaluation phase, local, state and national panelists conduct a review of all eligible applicants for Artistic/Cultural Excellence and Community Engagement & Audience Development.
