SUBJECT:

The Economic and Human Development Committee (EHDC) will hear briefings from leaders of four targeted industries: Bioscience and Healthcare; New Energy; Aerospace and Manufacturing; and Cybersecurity and IT.


SUMMARY:

The Economic and Human Development Committee (EHDC) will hear briefings from targeted industry leaders and related community institutions regarding their long-term vision and strategic objectives. Industries will be provided an opportunity to express their objectives related to economic development and present legislative and capital improvement priorities in preparation for the 2017 Bond Program and the 85th Texas Legislative Session.


BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

To achieve the 20-year vision articulated in the SA Tomorrow Comprehensive Plan, and in support of the goals and objectives set forth in the 5-year Forefront SA economic development strategic plan, the City of San Antonio seeks to understand the strategic direction of targeted industries and to focus its legislative agenda and infrastructure investment toward increasing economic competitiveness and maximizing long term impact. Targeted industry leaders and community partners from the Bioscience and Healthcare and New Energy Industries were invited by the City of San Antonio to present their specific institutional priorities for the next five to ten years and their capital improvement and legislative priorities for 2017.

The Economic and Human Development Committee will receive briefings from the following invited industries:
