BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
On April 30, 1992, City Council created the San Antonio Water System by Ordinance 75686. The Board further controls the expenditure and application of the revenues of the System, and makes recommendations to the City Council concerning rates, fees, and changes for services rendered by the System. Members appointed serve a 4-year term of office, and are limited to serving 2 terms.

Qualifications for the SAWS Board are as follows:
- Must be a Citizen of the United States
- Must reside inside the corporate limits of the City and inside the area serviced by the System.
- Must reside in the respective Sector of the City they are appointed to represent.
- A person who is related within the second degree of consanguinity or affinity (or as further restricted by the City's Home Rule Charter) to any member of the Board or any member of the City Council is not eligible for appointment.
