SUMMARY:
This ordinance awards a grant allocation through the City Council Project Funds Program.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
This ordinance awards a grant allocation to benefit the District 9 School Zone Safety Program in an amount not to exceed $42,000.00. The School Zone Safety Program raises awareness through educating elementary and middle school students on school zone safety. This program will affect the North East Independent School District, benefitting thirteen elementary and five middle schools. Roughly 10,000 students will benefit from the materials and education of school zone safety. The funding will provide the students with safety vests, patrol belts, flashers, safety cones, and hand-held stop signs to reduce the number of pedestrian accidents in school zones throughout the district. The total funding of $42,000.00 will be split up to purchase the materials needed.
ISSUE:
This ordinance awards a grant allocation to the District 9 School Zone Safety Program in an amount not to exceed $42,000.
ALTERNATIVES:
City Council could choose not to approve these CCPF allocations.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This ordinance awards a grant allocation to benefit the District 9 School Zone Safety Program in an amount not to exceed $42,000. Funds for this program are included in the FY 2016 General Fund Budget.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends the approval of this ordinance.
